Devlog 3: Prototype

Hi there!

It's us again, the Fare Exchange development team.

This week we really focused on choosing our game engine, since it is going to be the base of our project.

And our amazing prototype!

Art

- The Artbible is finished and the style has been set

- We re-designed the HUD element

Programming

- We implemented the jumping mechanic (after a lot of troubles and research) of the enemies, also with the attack, stun and death of them

- Added the fueling task with a boat hp so you can lose. There isn't an end-goal yet.

- Also added a lot of Ui for the tasks.

- Made a gameloop so people can finally replay it.

- Fixed a lot of gameplay bugs!

Sound

We decided that Charon will be present narrating our adventure at certain points of our adventure, reminding our players what to do, and letting them know of incoming or relevant events, like enmy waves or important tasks to complete for the sake of our boat.

We also tried out a Component-Metasound system to play music dynamically, adding layers of stems dynamically, following a inensity variable that allows a on-tempo crosfade. We paln in the future to conect to gameplay states, but for now we will just use debug keys to try them out and manipulate the value of that intensity variable.

We also found a way to visualize our gameplay mix through a widget peak-meter, that we would run as editor utility, so we have an idea of the levels that we are on currently, and adjust it to our necessities with the sound classes and submixes.

We also experimented with two differnt AI voice generator softwares to have Charon's voice-over, like Soundly and Replica Studios.

What's next?

Right now, we are in full-blown planning mode and after today, the first real production sprint starts. No more prototyping, we're going for it for real. Creating assets, designing the art, making professional sounds and of course having a clean code from the start.

That's all for today.

Until next week!
